The storm of solar particles is scheduled to hit earth on Tuesday. The earth's magnetic field will be affected, with the effect stronger around the poles. This is why planes flying over the poles have been re-routed to prevent their radio transmission equipment from being affected. Satellites could also be affected by the geomagnetic storm. On the positive side, northern lights might be visible as far south as New York City on Tuesday, caused by the solar storm.
