The Charter Project (http://www.jointhediscussion.ca) is a Canadian education and awareness campaign about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which turns 30 in April, 2012. Managed by 30 University of Windsor Law student volunteers who believe it's important to take Charter discussion outside of the Law school, this project is run on a part-time, extra-curricular basis. The campaign includes Public Service Announcement style videos (thus far featuring Howie Mandel, Rick Hansen, Kreesha Turner, Wide Mouth Mason, Adamo Ruggiero, etc.), substantive interviews with legal pioneers and starting this spring, education workshops in classrooms across Canada in partnership with the Canadian Bar Association. For Canada Day 2011 in Ottawa, we partnered with the National Capital Commission to set up a Charter Project kiosk at Major's Hill Park as a part of the official Canada Day festivities. We spoke with people about The Charter, showcased the interviews we've produced thus far, and provide copies of the Charter and other materials, some produced by our partner, the Fundamental Freedoms Project (http://www.charterofrights.ca). Many individuals and families loved taking pictures with our enormous reprint of the picture of Prime Minister Trudeau and Queen Elizabeth II signing The Constitution Act, 1982. For more information, please visit http://www.jointhediscussion.ca and or email us at charterproject@uwindsor.ca Original Video Music: Tyler Done (http://www.tylerdonemusic.com) Video Editor: Craig Irving (http://www.linkedin.com/in/craigirving) Videographer: Matt Pacey (http://mattpacey.com/) The Canada Day kiosk could not have happened without the financial support of the County of Carleton Law Association (http://www.ccla-abcc.ca) as well as personal donors. The project overall would not be able to sustain its current scope without the grant the student volunteers received from the Law Foundation of Ontario (http://www.lawfoundation.on.ca/).
