Yesterday (3/2/2012), we in the BGSU nation, learned about a horrific automobile crash on I-75, just north of Bowling Green, that involved 5 young BGSU students from the greek sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. A 69yr. old woman was driving down the wrong way (southbound) down the northbound lanes on I-75 and caused the accident. Two cars, full of girls, were on their way to the airport in Detroit, to begin their journey for Spring Break. The first car was able to swerve to avoid the wrong way driver, but the second car was not. That second car was being driven by Christina Goyett (19), from Bay City, Michigan, who died on the scene. 2 other students/sisters who were killed are Sarah Hammond (21), of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Rebekah Blakkolb (20), of Aurora, Ohio. The two remaining girls who were hospitalized and in serious condition are Angelica Mormile (19) of Garfield Heights, Ohio, and Kayla Somoles (19) of Parma, Ohio. The woman who caused this accident also died. Most of these young ladies were focusing on degrees built in the College of Education & Human Development, except Angelica Mormile, who was pursuing a degree in the College of Arts & Sciences. They were 5 out of 16 who were headed to a resort down in the Dominican Republic for their Spring Break trip. Their flight was scheduled for 5:30am, so they left Bowling Green around 2:00am. Accident happened around 2:10am. This slideshow is a little tribute to all 5 girls, especially the 3 'fallen angels' who are now spreading their wings elsewhere in the 'great beyond'. The song you hear me playing is a song by Jeanne Cotter..."Coming Home". For in their own separate ways, each girl will be 'coming home'. Hope you recover soon, Angelica and Kayla...Be strong!! RIP, Christina, Sarah, and Rebekah!!
