1/1/2012 --New Years Day 2012 eruption -- Sakurajima volcano in Japan

Never fails to impress -- and an exciting way to start the new year (for those of us who follow volcanic eruptions). Last year was an impressive one for volcanic eruptions world wide .. especially at this particular volcano -- which erupted multiple times per day all year long. This 1st of the year eruption is just one of several which have occurred today (1/1/2012). Many thanks to the scientists who monitor this mountain in Japan.
